Advent Services
As Advent approaches, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne warmly invites our congregation, friends, neighbors, and all who are searching for “churches near me” to join us for our Advent Suppers held each Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Advent Divine Service at 7:00 p.m. This cherished tradition brings our church family together around food, fellowship, prayer, and the hope-filled services of this holy season.
Advent is a time of anticipation, of waiting for Christ’s coming in humility at Bethlehem and His coming again in glory on the Last Day. At Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, we observe this season with quiet reflection and joyful expectation, drawing together as the body of Christ to hear God’s Word and receive His gifts. The Advent Suppers offer a peaceful weekly pause amid the busyness of December, giving everyone a chance to slow down and prepare their hearts for worship.
The suppers will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., leaving time for clean-up before entering the sanctuary for the Divine Service at 7:00 p.m. These evenings are simple, and they provide an easy opportunity to meet others, reconnect with familiar faces, and welcome new members and visitors into our fellowship. The first two Thursday meals will be potluck-style, limited to soups, salads, and breads. This keeps the meals simple and meaningful, allowing everyone who wishes to participate without pressure or complication. A warm soup or loaf of bread is enough to make a meal, and these classic Advent offerings remind us of the humility and simplicity of the season. If you’re unable to bring anything, please still come, your presence is what matters most, and there is always plenty to share.
The final Advent Supper, on Thursday, December 18, will be a special youth group fundraiser. On that evening, our youth will serve dinner as they raise funds for future trips and service activities. This meal is always a highlight of the season, filled with joy, gratitude, and the energy of our young people serving the church.
After each supper, everyone is invited to stay for the Advent Divine Service at 7:00 p.m. This service is the heart of our Thursday gatherings. In the midst of darkness and winter, the Church proclaims Christ, the Light who shines in the darkness and whom the darkness cannot overcome. Through hymns, readings, preaching, and the Holy Sacrament, our Lord strengthens us with His grace and prepares us for the celebration of His Nativity.
