Dude...American was *not* a Christian nation to begin with. Note I did not say that the founders were not inspired from the Bible. Plenty of the Founders were Deist, some were visibly Christian and one was Catholic. (In fact, look at Jefferson's Bible and look at Washington's church record. He did attend church with his wife; when it was time to go to the communion rail, Martha went up while George remained at the pews.) They also got the concept from reading the old pagan Greek and Roman philosophers. |

There is an interesting book, "CHristianity & the Constitution" by Rev. John Moe (I think that's the name), a college professor and Lutheran Brethren pastor. In it he claims most were Christian, that Washington certainly was, and that he DID commune sometimes. He also was a simple-minded unionist. Moe seems to do a good job in dispelling the Deist myth; he says the founders just don't fit too neatly into that camp.
